About Harbour & Stem
Harbour & Stem is an online plant shop built around steadiness, simplicity, and thoughtful growth.
Every plant, propagation, and piece offered here is selected with intention. This isn’t a high-volume shop or a trend-driven collection. It’s a carefully curated offering designed to feel manageable, calming, and real.
What You Can Expect...
-
Thoughtfully Selected Plants: Each plant is chosen for health, structure, and suitability for real homes. Some are soft and steady — reliable, grounding, and easy to live with. Others are sculptural and special — selected for form, texture, and presence. Every listing clearly communicates what kind of experience you can expect.
-
Water- and Substrate-Rooted Propagations: Propagations are a regular and celebrated part of the shop. They are monitored before listing to ensure they are ready to continue growing in their new home. Clear descriptions explain rooting type and care expectations so there are no surprises.
-
Plant & Nature-Inspired Artwork
From propagation vessels to everyday-use items, goods are chosen or created to support growth and daily ritual. Functional. Minimal. Long-lasting.
The Intention Behind It All...
Harbour & Stem was created as a deliberate shift toward balance and creativity after many years spent in high-intensity work. That intentionality shapes every offering.
Nothing here is rushed. Nothing is added just to fill space.
Every plant and product must feel aligned — steady, useful, and quietly beautiful.

Rooted in calm. Growing with purpose.

Meet Our Team
Jane Hartley-Quackenbush
Hi, I’m Jane — the person behind Harbour & Stem.
What began as a quiet love for plants gradually grew into a deeper appreciation for the way thoughtful objects and living spaces can shape how we feel at home. Inspired by the calm, steady rhythm of Lake Huron, Harbour & Stem was created as a small-batch studio focused on intentional plant care, custom-designed vessels, and pieces that bring warmth, texture, and life into everyday spaces.
I design and create each collection with a balance of function and simplicity in mind — from specialty substrate blends to 3D printed planters, trellises, and curated plant pairings. Every offering is rooted in the belief that caring for plants should feel approachable, grounding, and quietly meaningful.
When I’m not blending substrate or working on new designs, you’ll usually find me surrounded by plants, halfway through another project idea, or enjoying the shoreline that continues to inspire the heart of the brand.

Meet Piper... Piper is the four-legged heart of Harbour & Stem and is rarely far from whatever is happening in the studio.
Equal parts chaos and calm, Piper somehow manages to bring both energy and stillness into the space all at once. One moment she’s racing through the studio full of excitement, and the next she’s curled up quietly nearby during a long afternoon of repotting, packaging, or design work.
She’s become part of the rhythm behind Harbour & Stem — present for greenhouse mornings, substrate blending days, new product ideas, and the quieter moments in between. More than anything, Piper reflects the feeling the brand hopes to create: spaces that feel lived in, grounding, welcoming, and full of personality.
Her official responsibilities include floor-level quality control, studio companionship, and perfectly timed naps in patches of afternoon sunlight.
